BENJAMIN STRAWBRIDGE OR TROWBRIDGE

Although he is not listed in Francis B. Trowbridge's "The Trowbridge Genealogy", Benjamin's name appears in quitclaim deeds between Shubael Trowbridge's children: Augustine Bayles, Justus, John, and Elizabeth, which also listed a Benjamin, indicating son not listed in Francis Bacon Trowbridge's "The Trowbridge Genealogy". Benjamin was probabaly named after his maternal grandfather, Benjamin Bayles.

In several gedcoms at Rootsweb.com and Family Search.com, a Benjamin Strawbridge(Trowbridge) appears, with one listing his birth year as 1777 in Ireland. But on the basison circumstantial evidence I think this Benjamin Strawbridge is the same person as this Benjamin Strawbridge. This Benjamin moved to Lycoming County in Pennsylvania in the mid 1790s with his older brothers Justus and John, the same county where the other Benjamin lived. And I believe the confusion about Benjamin Strawbridge from Ireland's last name being Strawbridge or Trowbridge corresponds with Benjamin and his brothers changing their last name to Strawbridge before leaving Morris County.

Also the fact that Benjamin Strawbridge had two sons named Jesse Justin (one gedcom has him listed as Justus) and John would also follow a Trowbridge tradition naming children after siblings or parents, with perhaps Jesse Justin or Justus Strawbridge or Trowbridge being named after Justus Strawbridge and John after John Strawbridge. The Benjamin in one Rootsweb gedcom drowned in the Susquehanna River near Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1821, which would have been the same age as Shubael's son. Hopefully further research will clarify his identity.
