Frank was convicted of murdering his girlfriend by bludgeoning her with a stereo speaker in 1974 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. A judge decreased his sentence to 2-5 years, and in 1977 after serving 2 1/2 years, Frank was released from prison. In 1978, another court overturned the reduced sentence and he was ordered to resume his life sentence.
