The Spiritual Birth Vs The Natural Birth

John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

Romans 7:14-25, "For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin."

I. There Is A Contrast In Their Nature.

A. The Natural birth is of the Flesh.

John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

B. The New birth is a Spiritual birth.

John 5:21, "For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will."

C. The New birth is of a Divine Nature.

2 Peter 1:4, "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

II. There Is A Contrast In Their Importance.

A. The Natural birth is necessary to enter the Human Race.

John 3:4, "Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?"

B. The New birth is necessary to enter Heaven.

John 3:3, "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

C. The New birth is necessary to Please God.

Romans 8:7-8, "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God."

III. There Is A Contrast In Their Means.

A. The Natural birth is by Human Parents.

Exodus 2:1-2, "And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months."

B. The New birth is by the Word of God.

1 Peter 1:23, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."

C. The New birth is by the Spirit of God.

John 3:5, "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

IV. There Is A Contrast In The Desires They Produce.

A. The Natural birth gives the desire to Live After The Flesh.

Romans 8:5, "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit."

B. The New birth gives the desire to want to Do God's Will.

Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

Philippians 2:13, " For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

C. The New birth gives the desire to Worship God.

Philippians 3:3, "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh."

V. There Is A Contrast In The Positions They Produce.

A. The Natural birth produces a Child of Wrath.

Ephesians 2:3, "Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."

B. The New birth produces a Child of God.

1 John 3:1-2, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is"

C. The New birth produces a Joint-Heir With Christ.

Romans 8:17, "And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."

VI. There Is A Contrast In The Mind They Produce.

A. The Natural birth produces a Mind Against God.

Romans 8:7, "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be."

B. The New birth produces a Sound Mind.

2 Timothy 1:7, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

C. The New birth produces the Mind of Christ.

Philippians 2:5, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:"

VII. There Is A Contrast In The Heart They Produce.

A. The Natural birth produces a Deceitful Heart.

Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"

B. The New birth produces a New Heart.

Ezekiel 36:26, "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh."

C. The New birth produces a Pure Heart.

Matthew 5:8, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."

2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
