"He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love." --- (SofS 2:4)
Travis Case, Pastor/Teacher          Northgate Baptist Church          F.E.A.S.T Ministries

Luke 1:30-31, "And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS."

Matt. 1:20-21, "But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."

Introduction:

A. Back in the 80's, before I became Chaplain of the Plano Fire Department, several of the Firefighters called me and wanted to meet with me. We made an appointment to meet for breakfast and talk about the Chaplaincy. After we had visited for a few minutes, the first question they ask me was, "Who Is This Man You Call Jesus?" I came to find out that they merely wanted to be sure that I was not one of the "Liberal" Chaplain that had little or no convictions about who Jesus is. In other words, they want a True Christian as their Chaplain. Sad as it may be, many Chaplains, Pastors, and Church Members are worshiping the Wrong Jesus, a Pseudo-Jesus of their own making. When they stand before God at the Judgment, they will hear the Lord say: "I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Matt. 7:22-23, "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Jesus did Not Say, "I Once Knew You But You Lost It." --- He Did Say, "I Never Knew You."

B. There are Many Different Christ. which one are you worshiping?

1. If we do Not have the Correct Doctrine of Christ, we do Not Have God.

2 John 9, "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son."

2. Some people are preaching a False Jesus --- not ever "Jesus" that people believe in is the "Jesus" of The Bible.

2 Cor. 11:3-4, "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."

C. Believing That Jesus Christ Is God Is Essential For Salvation!

1. John 20:31, "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

2. Believe It or Not --- The following Quotes are Verbatim from e-mail which I received from a Professing Christian:

"I have never believed that Jesus is God. I believe, as Jesus Christ told us in the Gospels, He is the Son of God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that one has to believe Jesus Christ is God .....but over and over it does say you have to believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I simply refuse to believe Jesus is Jehovah, the Creator. Jesus is the Son of God, the Father. No where in the Bible does it say one has to believe God is Jesus."

3. What does the term "Son of God" mean in the Bible?

It means that Jesus is not only the Son of God --- He is also God The Son.

John 5:17-18, "But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. 18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God."

John 10:30, "I and my Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

4. Jesus Christ Is God, was God, Will Always Be God, And Never Was There Ever A Moment In Time That He Was Not God! --- Charles Stanley

5. Jesus Is Either Fully God or He Is Not God At All --- Period!

I. The New Testament Teaches That Jesus Is God!

John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." --- V. 14, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

1 Tim. 3:16, "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

Acts 20:28, "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."

God Purchased The Church With His Own Blood --- Jesus Christ.

Phil. 2:5-6, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:"

Col. 2:8-9, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

Paul --- Titus 2:13, "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;"

John --- 1 John 5:20, "And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life."

II. The Old Testament Teaches That Jesus Is God!

Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Psalm 45:6, "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre."

Heb. 1:8, "But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom."

The Father, addressing the Son, addresses Him as "God" or "Theos."

Psa. 110:1, "The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool."

Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

"Immanuel" Means "God With Us."

Matthew 1:23, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

III. We Are Commanded To Worship God Only --- He Will Not Share His Glory With Another!

Matt. 4:9-10, "And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."

Exo. 20:3, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

Exo. 23:13, "And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth."

Exo. 34:14, "For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Isa. 42:8, "I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."

Isa. 48:11, "For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.

Deut. 4:35, "Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him." --- V. 39, "Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else."

Jesus Allowed Himself To Be Worshipped!

Matt. 8:2, "And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

Matt. 9:18, "While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live."

Matt. 14:33, "Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God."

Matt. 15:25, "Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me."

Matt. 28:9, "And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him."

Matt. 28:17, "And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted."

John 9:35-38, "Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. 38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him."

John 20:28-29, "And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."

Jesus not only Allows Thomas To Worship Him As God, He also pronounces a Blessing Upon All of Us Who Will Believe And Do The Same.

When Jesus Accepted Worship, He was saying to the world, "I Am The Lord Thy God."

If Jesus is Not God, yet He Allowed Himself To Be Worshipped As God, He would have been a Sinner and a Blasphemer.

Believing in Jesus is not enough. We must believe in the Jesus of The Bible.

God Commanded The Angels To Worship Jesus!

Heb. 1:6, "And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him."

IV. Jesus Claimed To Be God!

John 5:17-18, "But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. 18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God."

John 10:30-33, "I and my Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God."

John 14:9, "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?"

God said --- Exo. 3:14, "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."

Jesus said --- John 8:58, "Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."

Jesus did not say, "I Was" --- He said, "I AM" --- an Eternal Presence.

The Jews Understood exactly what Jesus was saying and therefore tried to Stone Him For Blasphemy.

V. Jesus Possesses The Attributes Which Describes God:

A. Omnipotent.

Luke 8:24, "And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm."

B. Omniscient:

Mark 11:2-6, "And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. 3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. 4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. 5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? 6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go."

John 2:24, "But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,"

Luke 5:22, "But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?"

C. Omnipresent.

Matt. 28:20, "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

John 3:13, "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven."

D. Eternal.

Micah 5:2, "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."

Col. 1:17, "And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."

E. Creator.

1. John 1:3, "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

Col. 1:17, "And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."

Heb. 1:3, "Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;"

F. Saviour.

John 3:18, "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

G. Judge.

John 5:22, "For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:"
